Isaak Levitan

Isaak Levitan (1860-1900) was a Lithuanian Jew who is remembered as one of Russia's greatest landscape painters. The incongruity of his origins and his destiny is discussed in this interesting article. More about Levitan here. A book about Levitan's painting, Lyrical Landscapes, is available.
